Sort of Like A Family
By: Tanisha
What SSA* means to me
It's a young adult program
It's a way to escape from a dysfunctional family
A safe environment that helps us learn living skills
Some of us need a safe place to heal
Some of us need a structured place to live
If you need that extra help SSA has that to give
The staff here are very easy to talk to
And when you're not in the right state of mind they're there for you
They are very understanding and kind
They help you deal with tough stuff that's on your mind
It's a great place for a new beginning and a new start
And if soemthing heavy is holding down your heart
Staff is there to lighten up that load
and give you hope to hang on to and a future to hold
When I first moved here
I realized that there are places that really care
For young adults that need a home
And a safe place to call their own
This is a new experience for me
And some of the residents here became sort of a family
The Salvation Army supports SSA
Which abbreviates State St. Apartments who are there for you 24 hours a day
I know have hope more than before
Hope is what I needed
I rather not have anything more
Thanks SSA for being there for me
When all I needed was a family
