TRANSITIONAL APARTMENTS AND PARENTING CENTER

The TAPC is a supportive apartment and parenting center specifically designed for young girls between the ages of 16 – 21 who are pregnant or already parenting. Comprehensive services and certified daycare facilities are offered on site in order to prevent these vulnerable young families from becoming homeless or returning to a life on the streets. In addition to providing each of the 24 girls with their own small apartment, the TAPC also offers 24-hour crisis support and supervision, case management, independent living skills, parent education, social events and recreational activities. The primary focus of the TAPC is to assist residents with obtaining the necessary skills for independent living and effective parenting while at the same time equipping them for educational advancement and ongoing employment.

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Provide weekly child care for one hour during
        parenting classes
  • Become a mentor to a teen mom for a couple of
        hours each month
  • Share your thoughts as a guest speaker during
        one of our group meetings
  • Assist residents with job searches
        and interviewing skills
  • Greet guests in our lobby, answer
        telephones and assist with clerical tasks
    		• Provide program supplies for the year
    (furniture, cribs, strollers, toys, books, diapers clothing)

    Reimburse the cost of food and beverages for independent living skills classes, parenting groups, birthdays, baby showers and graduation events

    Assist in the cost of housing and staffing a
    24-hour residential parenting center for young
    mothers and their young children:
    For one year - $3,805 -
    For 6 months - $1,900 -
    For 3 months - $950 -

    Sponsor educational and recreational outings for young mothers and their babies such as trips to the zoo, libraries or area nature parks
    - $1,475 -

    Share in the responsibility for parent training and independent living skills training for a teen mom
    - $1,500 -
