Celebrating Hope - 125 Years of Doing the Most Good
Children & Seniors

Giving Children What They Need for Success
Quality early education is vital to success in school. Research shows that 85% of a child’s personality, intellect, and social skills are developed by the age of 5, making those early years so important. If children are ready for school when they begin kindergarten, there is a much greater chance of graduation.

Low-income working parents need to have safe and affordable day care if they are going to be able to do well in the workplace. Our Day Care and After School Programs offer 285 children daily the opportunity for nurturing, nutrition, and skill building. Our emphasis on literacy, appropriate behaviors, and healthy choices means that children thrive in our care, in school settings, and in society. The work of our staff extends beyond the individual children to their families, who may need referral for other services.

Each child in our care has a unique plan, based upon that child’s needs and abilities. Staff members work together to develop curriculum for each child so that everyone works to help each child build his/her skills and thrive.

Keeping Seniors Active and Healthy
Our population is living longer, and requires different levels of care. For many seniors, financial resources significantly limit their options in terms of daily activities. Our Adult Day Center is available to seniors regardless of ability to pay. Our program provides breakfast and lunch, five days a week, along with nutrition, wellness, social and recreational activities, and fellowship. Adults with physical and/or mental disabilities are also participants at our Adult Day Center.

The need among seniors for a place to go with appropriate care is growing. Within moments of arriving at the Adult Day Center, it is clear that it is a very special place. A diverse group of seniors are taking part in a variety of activities. Some might be reading or playing cards in the library, others might be taking part in an exercise class in a different room, others might be doing an art project in the dining room or doing ceramics in the ceramic room, and still others might be in Bible Study in the Chapel.

Research shows that seniors who feel that they have choices, who are connected to people who care about them, who have somewhere to go, and who receive nutritious food, can be healthy and able to live independently longer. We have shown how well seniors can do when they are in an environment that is well structured and has trained professional staff. With the aging population increasing, and with a significant percentage of those seniors economically challenged, we must be able to continue to offer our services and expand them to meet growing needs.
